We started Taktältarna because we ourselves love to travel like this: with the car packed, the map half folded, and no exact plan. 

From our base in Åre, Taktältarna has driven through mountains, along fjords, and across Iceland – and slept in places we would never have found otherwise.

Taktältarna has roof tent rentals in Stockholm. Here are tips especially aimed at our rental customers based on the pickup location.

If you rent in Stockholm, we especially want to recommend taking the ferry over to Gotland. Pickup takes place in Västerhaninge, on the way to the ferry over to Nynäshamn. To Gotland, we at Taktältarna made our first longer trip with a roof tent when we drove around the whole island. It was super easy to find nice places to roof tent, the sea is everywhere, and the restaurant selection is great.

Another tip is to go to Skåne – we have been to both the Bjäre Peninsula (Höganäs! Båstad! Holy Smoke!) and among apple trees and poppies in Österlen.

If you have children, why not a visit to Astrid Lindgren's World in Vimmerby, continue out to the coast at Västervik and then take the bridge over to the sunny Öland!
